English Literature as English is considered "foreign" by most of the citizens of this country. Maybe it has something to do with the phenomenon of national language politics, which still places English, including its Literature, as part of a foreign language, not as the language of instruction in schools and campuses except in certain classes at international standard schools (SBI). This is exacerbated by the lack of English poetry, novels, or drama literature on the shelves of campus and school libraries.

Materi Sastra Inggris: Understanding the World of Literature

By learning and enjoying English literature, students will widen their knowledge and visions by understanding more about some great literary works, the life stories of famous authors, and their thoughts. It will also make the students acquainted with their ideas, feelings, and attitudes towards life, man, nature, and God.

English literature learning also indirectly gives some good guidance to the students since literature is also a means of transformation; indirectly, it may lead the wrong back to the right path, although NOT ALL literary works are preaching and moralizing.
The readers may (or should) find suitable life lessons regardless of their literary works. These can be philosophical, religious, moralistic, social, etc.
